Getting to the mountains
Telluride is remote, and that's part of its magic. A little planning goes a long way — here's everything you need to arrive smoothly and settle in.
Step one
Three airports serve the region. Most guests fly into Montrose for the best balance of flights and drive time.
~1 hr 15 min drive to Telluride. The practical choice — more flights, larger aircraft, and reliable service on United, American, and Delta (seasonal). Recommended for most guests.
~10 min drive to town. North America's highest commercial airport. Stunning, but flights are limited and weather can cause delays. Great if the schedule works for you.
~2.5 hr drive via a gorgeous mountain route. A solid backup if Montrose fares are high. Best for guests up for a scenic road trip.
Denver (DEN) is ~6 hrs by car if you'd like to make a road trip of it. Book flights early — mountain routes fill up fast in summer.

In late June, mountain roads are clear and beautiful — no snow tires needed. A standard rental car is fine. Watch for afternoon thunderstorms and give yourself extra time on winding canyon roads.
